Challenge
Seasonal stability under 10x load
Traffic and checkout volume routinely spike to ~10x baseline during gifting peaks. The platform has to absorb that surge cleanly — no queueing, no failed checkouts, no degraded experience.

Overview
GiftCrowd is a group gifting platform that lets organizers pool contributions online, invite participants, and let recipients redeem from 450+ top brands. It powers teacher appreciation, school events, workplace gifting, and personal milestones across the US — free for organizers and contributors.
The business runs on two extreme seasonal peaks: Teacher Appreciation Week in May–June and the Winter Holiday window in November–December. During these windows, traffic and transaction volume can spike to roughly 10x baseline, and every single failure is a refund, a support ticket, and a damaged moment. Mejix was brought in to make that surge a non-event.
Why executives care
A gifting platform that fails on Teacher Appreciation Week or Christmas Eve doesn't just lose revenue — it loses the moment. The Mejix engagement exists to make sure that never happens.
Challenges
Challenge
Traffic and checkout volume routinely spike to ~10x baseline during gifting peaks. The platform has to absorb that surge cleanly — no queueing, no failed checkouts, no degraded experience.
Challenge
Every campaign involves contributors paying in, organizers managing the pool, and recipients redeeming out — across multiple providers. The accounting, reconciliation, and fraud surface area is significantly larger than a normal checkout.
Challenge
5 payment processors and 4 gift card networks all have to behave like one product. If one provider degrades mid-peak, the platform has to fail over without the buyer ever knowing.
Challenge
The frontend stack needed a full move to Angular 18 while the platform continued processing live transactions 24/7. We couldn't take a maintenance window — there isn't one.
Challenge
Pooled funds, gift card payouts, and high gifting-season volume make GiftCrowd an attractive target. Fraud controls needed to be strong enough for finance, invisible enough for the average parent organizing a class gift.
Approach
Mejix operates as a fully embedded engineering team built around a single operating principle: stability first, scalability second, features third. Every release is judged against that order, and seasonal planning is aligned to the gifting calendar instead of an internal sprint clock.
On the platform side, that translated into a modernized Angular 18 SPA and admin portal, a multi-provider payment stack with automatic fallback, real-time integrations with four gift card networks, and an AWS-native infrastructure tuned for predictable peak behavior rather than average load.
Solutions
Four systems working together — modern frontend, redundant payments, multi-network gift card fulfillment, and elastic infrastructure — so peak season behaves like any other day.

A modern TypeScript + SCSS frontend with Material UI and AG Grid replacing the legacy stack, plus an internal admin portal for campaign management, support, and operational visibility — shipped without a single production interruption.
Five payment processors — Stripe as the primary, PayPal as a fallback, Venmo, and BNPL options (Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay) — orchestrated behind one checkout, with webhook handling and reconciliation that keeps finance teams sane during peak weeks.
Real-time integration with Runa, PerfectGift, Blackhawk Network, and Incomm — 450+ redeemable brands with live catalog sync, instant digital fulfillment, and automated redemption flows for recipients.
Load-balanced EC2 behind an ALB, RDS SQL Server with 35-day backups, SQS-driven async processing, and Lambda for background workloads — provisioned and rehearsed against the gifting calendar so peak weeks run on a known-good plan.
Technology
Modern SPA frontend with Material UI and AG Grid, replacing legacy code without disrupting live operations.
The transactional backend powering payments, campaigns, multi-party flows, and gift card orchestration.
Managed SQL Server with 35-day point-in-time recovery and a clean data layer built for high-write transactional load.
Load-balanced application tier with automated deployment pipelines — zero-downtime releases as a default, not a feature.
Async work, webhook fan-out, scheduled jobs, and peak-time queue absorption so user-facing checkout stays fast.
Five payment rails behind one checkout experience, with intelligent routing and graceful fallback.
Four gift card networks delivering 450+ redeemable brands with real-time availability and instant fulfillment.
End-to-end monitoring across infrastructure, application, and payment webhooks — every anomaly is alerted before it becomes a support ticket.
Results
Independent of any single season's numbers, the Mejix engagement has produced measurable, repeatable outcomes for GiftCrowd's leadership team.

Why Mejix
Project manager, .NET backend, Angular frontend, QA, and DevOps engineers operating as a true extension of GiftCrowd's team — not a ticket queue.
Every architectural decision is judged against peak-week behavior. Stability first, scalability second, features third — in that order, every time.
Roadmap, releases, and on-call rotations align with Teacher Appreciation Week and Winter Holidays, not with an internal sprint cadence.
Real production experience integrating, routing, and failing over across 5 payment processors and 4 gift card networks — not a slide deck.
Voices from the team
“Peak weeks used to be a fire drill. Now they're a Tuesday. That's the difference Mejix has made.”
“Modernizing the entire frontend to Angular 18 while we kept processing transactions 24/7 — and our users never knew it happened. That's the standard we expect.”
What's next
The next phase of the GiftCrowd engagement focuses on widening the brand catalog, deepening B2B and enterprise gifting workflows, and pushing more of the operational layer into self-serve admin tooling — all without compromising the stability-first principle that defines the platform today.
On the engineering side, that means continued investment in observability, automated peak-load rehearsals ahead of each seasonal window, and incremental modernization of the .NET service surface as the product grows.

Reviews & Certifications
Mejix doesn't behave like a vendor — they behave like the engineering team you wish you'd hired yourself. They own the platform's stability, they plan around our seasonal calendar, and they make sure peak weeks are boring on the infrastructure side so we can focus on growth.
